27 European foreign ministers met in Brussels to impose economic sanctions on Russia

The 27 European foreign ministers met in Brussels  to impose economic sanctions on Russia if Moscow launches a new military assault into Ukraine.

Following a meeting of G7 ministers the US and major allies warned the Kremlin of massive consequences.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has warned of confrontation if the United States and NATO fail to give Moscow security guarantees concerning its eastern expansion.

He said President Vladimir Putin has demanded legally binding security guarantees that NATO will not expand further east or place its weapons close to Russian territory.
