UN Security Council adopts resolution to ease flow of aid to Afghanistan
The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a US-proposed resolution to facilitate humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. The resolution states that payment of funds, other financial assets or economic resources and the provision of goods and services necessary to ensure the timely delivery of such assistance or support such activities are permitted.
The resolution also includes monitoring of the destination of aid and a UN report on the functioning of the assistance every six months. It is pertinent to mention that the U.S seized nearly 9.5 billion dollars in assets belonging to the Afghan central bank.
